Watched “Only lovers left alive” by Jim Jarmusch yesterday at 54th Thessaloniki International Film Festival opening and I’m thrilled with his music choices, as with his photography and choice on cities.
Both Tom Hiddleston and Tilda Swinton are more than “lustful” throughout the movie. Please note that a) there is humor involved in the film and b) that this is definitely not a horror vampire splatter! Vampires are actually presented as some very sophisticated persons, with environmental (!) concerns, being extremely “concious” –as Jarmusch himself mentioned repeatedly during his press conference.
Official summary goes as follows and has little to do with the actual content of the film:
After being around for centuries and now living in the modern age, vampire Adam (Tom Hiddleston) is a rockstar who cannot grow accustomed to the new modern world with all of its new technology. While he lives in Detroit, his wife Eve (Tilda Swinton) lives in Tangier, flourishing in the new world. But when she senses Adam’s depression with society, she gets on a plane and goes to see him. Shortly after Eve gets there, her little sister, Ava (Mia Wasikowska), shows up after 87 years and disrupts the couple’s idyll reunion.
Tangier, Detroit, music, scenery, the real Shakespeare, Adam and, above all, Eva are more than wAnd-erful.
An absolutely must-see and some absolutely must- listen tracks…
