Skopelos belongs to Sporades complex thus is not the most famous island in the area – “Thank God” we’d say, since is not as overcrowded or fancy (in a bad way) as Skiathos. This one, is still a treasure of nature and relaxation.
Skopelos: a beach for each taste. We strongly suggest you rent a car and visit them all: Agnontas, Milia, Velanio, Stafylos, Panormos, Limnonari, Kastani, Spilia and many many more! Our favorite is Agnontas little harbor and Stafylos beach but each one of them worths a dive! Water is of course crystal clear and people more than friendly, showing you around their hidden beauties. Food is great, forget touristic spots and skip to the meaning of Skopelos: “climb up” (there’s a lot of stairs to get there) to the top of the castle where an open air tavern offers live music so special than anything else you might meet in Greece:
And that brings us to the tip you shouldn’t miss!
We quote:
“Skopelos is the birthplace of many artists, who devoted to the Greek music and especially to the music genre of rembetika, a type of music created by the Greek refugees from Asia Minor who came to Greece in 1922. Giorgios Xintaris, a skilled musician and great singer, is one of the best representatives of rembetiko music. He was born in Skopelos in 1952 and moved to Athens in 1965. There, he started to perform at the most known spots of Athens, in typical Greek taverns with his son and other fellow musicians. Throughout his career, Giorgios Xintaris has worked with the most famous singers and musicians of his time. During summer, he usually performs at the traditional open-air taverns of Skopelos, always keeping his passion for the Greek music.“
He actually is one of the kind! Food there is also great, try the local pie “skopelitiki” pie and you’ll keep this unique visit your whole life. Stroll around the mainland “chora”, where you can shop local delicacies, admire the island’s architecture and drink some strong cocktails up to “Vrahos” cafe – bar from where you’ll get a panorama at your feet. Got more days to spend? Go on a daily trip to Alonnisos, just an hour away!
Genuine vacations for authentic people!
