The Underdog is a micro-roastery (with third wave coffee shop services) and an alternative beer bar in Thiseio (Athens), Greece. We visited The Underdog just few days ago and we’re more than excited to introduce it to you.
The crew behind The Underdog takes pride in serving a unique coffee experience, breaking the anonymity of served beans by bringing out a delicate and dynamic clarity in every coffee they produce. This spot boosted the dynamic of Irakleidon str. just across the Acropolis, in the up & coming hip area of Thissio. Undoubtedly, a key factor for its success, is the magnificent neoclassical building hosting it, facing Acropolis’ from a stone’s throw.
As every third wave coffee shop that respects its branding, the owners feel fortunate to be sourcing and roasting some of the finest and cleanest coffees available plus serving to all of us a wide selection of unique small batch beers and off course every weekend their delicious brunch menu. We’ll be honest: it took three different selections to satiate our hangover-ed appetite. The servings didn’t lack quantity nor quality while the variety offered is just as enough as it should have been.
Its catalog is nicely designed -as is everything in this spot- and their cocktail list entails a few mixes named “Project Mayhem” (from the movie “Fight Club”) or “Suzanne” (inspired by Leonard Cohen’s song).
Their statement? “We are forever curious and always uncompromising in our quest for delicious specialty coffee-beer-brunch.”
*Underdog: a person or a group of people, who is expected to lose the battle. In the case the underdog wins, the outcome of this victory is an upset. And this will be our purpose: to create an upset with our every day work. We all have been or felt underdogs in our life.
What’s more? It hosts few of the best doodle art graffiti of the town plus its urban loft aesthetics of both the interior and its yard make The Underdog the perfect weekend brunch spot! Their crew is more than friendly, always there to help you decide from a drooling variety. Beware to book your weekend table early enough.
